Dressing for Body Boarding

Body boarding is a type of water sport that predates modern day surfing. The average board it used in this activity is consists of a small, rectangular piece of hydrodynamic foam with a stringer in the middle of the board for added support. It also utilises swimming fins that are needed for additional propulsion during takeoff.

When indulging in this activity for competition or leisure, appropriate dress is essential to prevent rash, maintain warmth, and protect the body from harmful ultraviolet rays. Below are some tips on how to suit up before hitting the waves.

Put on boarding shorts that fit tightly and have an elastic waistband to hold them snugly in place. This type of apparel usually extends to the mid-thigh or just above the knee. For upper body protection, don on a top that guard against rash. This is made to fit the body and contains water resistant fabric.

If the water temperature is cold, wear a wet suit. This is available in short or long versions for the arms and legs. Find one that ranges from 2 to 5 mm. Next, slip on fin socks to protect the feet from irritation from fins.
